Teaching on digital pianos.

Oh dear!

Today I was teaching a student about the technique called "Anschluss" in german.

That is "connection" between two notes or more. Actually about the problem to play

(or should I say "fake") a legato on a percussion instrument like piano.

On an acoustic instrument you show the student how to adapt the attack on the second tone

in a legato phrase. You simply connect the new attack to the level of the previous notes DECAY.

Then you can find a way to play some kind af legato. IMPOSSIBLE TO DO ON A DIGITAL INSTRUMENT SINCE THE PRODUCER DECIDED AN EQUAL DECAY FOR EVERY TONE YOU PLAY.

My student has been practicing on a digital piano. Its a disaster. And it would have been a bigger disaster if I was teaching on a digital piano. Then I couldn't show the student how to do it.
